Purpose

When it comes to stairs, balustrades, and guards, ensuring compliance with local building codes is crucial. This often means individually measuring risers, runs, balustrade spacing, and handrail or guard heights. These are all tedious tasks that take time and effort. But now, there’s the One Step Tool! By simply placing the device on the relevant element, users can instantly verify compliance based on pre-set measurements. Created for the North American market, this tool lets you quickly and accurately confirm that all required regulations are met. With potential for international expansion, it covers risers and runs for stairs, balustrade spacing, and handrail and guard heights.

Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Lludd ap Gwyn of Canada has created an innovative new stair and balustrade code compliance tool.

While working in the field of architecture, Lludd was often sent to construction sites to check if the work met the required standards. For stairs, balustrades, and guards, it was their responsibility to ensure everything was built according to the plans and complied with local building codes. This typically involved measuring the height and depth of steps, the spacing between balustrades, and the height of handrails and guards. It was all a very tedious process. Lludd just knew there had to be a better way. In turn, he was inspired to develop the One Step Tool!

But how does it work? By simply placing the device on the relevant element, users can now instantly verify compliance based on pre-set measurements. Created for the North American market, this tool lets you quickly and accurately confirm that all required regulations are met. With potential for international expansion, it covers risers and runs for stairs, balustrade spacing, and handrail and guard heights.
